Welcome to the Centre Region COG Regional Refuse and Recycling homepage.

CRCOG's Regional Refuse and Recycling Program serves residents of Benner, College, Ferguson, Harris and Patton townships as their designated agent. CRCOG is responsible for ensuring customer satisfaction, contractor compliance and enforcement of the municipal solid waste & recycling ordinances. 

Our mission is to promote public health, safety, and welfare and to eliminate public health hazards, environmental pollution, and economic loss in the Centre Region through the collection, transportation, and disposal of residential municipal waste.

CHRISTMAS TREE RECYCLING January 6 - 10

ALERT: Christmas Tree collection has been postponed for Monday, January 6 and Tuesday, January 7. There may be additional delays throughout the week. Missed trees will be collected on the next possible day, so leave trees at the curb. Please make sure the tree is visible (not buried in a pile of plowed snow) and not frozen to the ground.

Residential customers of WM in Benner, College, Ferguson, Harris and Patton Townships may place their Christmas trees at the curb for collection during the week of January 6 - 10 ONLY. Trees will be composted at the State College Borough Compost Facility.

New Contract Starting April 1, 2025

A new Refuse and Recycling contract begins APRIL 1, 2025  for residents of Benner, College, Ferguson, Harris and Patton Townships with curbside collection of their refuse and recycling. Go HERE for more information and to find a link to our Frequently Asked Questions at the bottom of that page.

COLLECTION SCHEDULE CHANGES FOR 2024

The ONLY days when there will be no collection in 2024 are:

May 27

Memorial Day

July 4 

Independence Day

September 2

Labor Day

November 28 

Thanksgiving Day

December 25 

Christmas Day

 January 1, 2025

New Year's Day

There will be a one-day delay for the rest of the week following each of those days, with Friday's collection taking place on Saturday.

Collection of both Refuse and Recycling will begin at 6 a.m. from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

Are you trying to reach someone with a question or problem regarding your refuse and recycling curbside collection?

→Customer service is provided by WM (Waste Management).  Here's how to get in touch with them:

Contact them with questions on billing, weekly service, or special pickups.

Also call customer service if you are experiencing a missed collection or any other problems with your weekly collection.  Do not send an email regarding refuse missed collections.

→If it's your recycling that was missed or about which you have a question, call the Centre County Recycling and Refuse Authority at 814-238-7005.

2024 COLLECTION RATES

Residential rates for curbside collection of refuse and recycling will not increase for 2024.    Click HERE for the rates for residential curbside collection of refuse and recycling.

 

SIGN UP FOR ALERTS

Get an email or a text message when the schedule for refuse or recycling collection changes for holidays, severe weather, or other emergencies.  There are TWO ways to do this:

1. Sign up for the COG email alerts by clicking on the blue button over on the right ("Subscribe to Alerts & Newsletter"). 

2. Tell Waste Management to send you either email or text alerts on your WM online account: under "My Account" go to "Manage Contacts". On the "Manage Contacts" page, check your email address and phone number, then look over on the left for "Communication Preferences", click "here" and then tell WM how and when to send you notifications.
