Fire Safety License (Businesses)

  • Commercial building owners are required to obtain and maintain a fire safety program license prior to and during occupancy of the space.
  • Inspection of all commercial properties, including all business offices, mercantile, assembly and industrial occupancies are required to ensure compliance with the International Fire Code and the 2017 Centre Region Building Safety & Property Maintenance Code.
  • The Code Office administers the adopted building, property maintenance and fire codes, and coordinates with the health department to identify and provide guidance on the mitigation of conditions that would compromise the health and safety of residents and visitors of the Centre Region.
  • If a new occupancy creates a change in use of the space, a new fire safety program license must be applied for within 5 calendar days of the change occurring. A change in building ownership or change in tenant also requires a new fire safety application; in this situation, an existing license is transferable to the new building owner.
