What type of Fire Company protects the Centre Region?
The Alpha Fire Company is a volunteer fire department. Volunteers do not receive pay for the hours they work or for training, meetings, and public service. They are residents of the Centre Region, quite possibly from your own neighborhood, who have a strong desire to serve the community. Alpha volunteers receive an annual stipend to offset personal costs and as a token of appreciation for accepting the disruptions to normal life created by emergencies. Like Alpha, all eighteen fire companies in Centre County are volunteer companies.
Four of the five paid COG staff positions, the Fire Director, the Assistant Fire Chiefs, and the Equipment Technician regularly respond to emergency incidents whenever available regardless of the time of day.
