Addition

The permit process for an addition is a two-step procedure:

  1. The property owner first applies for a zoning permit at the local municipality. This typically involves submitting a permit application and two sets of building plans - drawn to scale - for zoning approval.
  2. Once zoning approval is obtained, the project document package must then be picked up and submitted to the Code Office for a building permit application review and approval.

Please note that the permit applicant is responsible for providing the construction details and all pertinent information on the plans to verify building code compliance. Please refer to  the Single Family Home/Addition Submittal Guide (within the Residential Addition Permit Application Packet below) for help with the level of detail and information that will be required on both sets of submitted plans. This can be a complicated process, and assistance from a design professional is highly recommended.
