Retaining Wall

Any retaining wall greater than 4 feet high requires a building permit. However, retaining walls that are less than 4 feet high but retain soil that supports a structure also require a building permit. Regardless of the materials used to build the wall, you must have zoning approval from your local municipality, and it must be designed by a Registered Pa design professional. Building permit submissions must include zoning approval and 2 sets of plans that include construction details of the wall. Please review our Retaining Wall Guidelines HERE.
