October 22, 2020: COVID-19 Update from the Centre Region Emergency Management Program
Centre Region Specific News:
- Penn State: Penn State announced its plans for the departure of students at the end of fall semester. The University will cease in person classes on November 20th and move to a virtual platform. - Penn State: The University is partnering with the State College Borough, the CBICC and Mount Nittany Health on a messaging campaign that discouraged Penn State fans from traveling to the area for football season. - Centre County: The County is offering free COVID-19 testing at the Nittany Mall from October 27th to November 14th. The walk in testing location will be inside the former Bon Ton space and will be open from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM. - State College Borough: From Monday, October 12, to Sunday, October 18, there were 10 temporary emergency ordinance violations reported to the police department that resulted in the issuance or filing of 6 citations. Since enactment, there have been a total of 76 citations issued for violations.
- Trick or Treating: Trick or Treat Night is scheduled for October 29th from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Messaging has been targeted around encouraging residents to follow the CDC's guidance on safer trick or treating. News from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania:
- The Governor announced that the state is waiving liquor license fees in 2021 to provide financial relief to bars and restaurants. - The Department of Health rolled out a new mobile app that helps with contact tracing and with symptom tracking. You can read more here: https://www.pa.gov/covid/covid-alert-pa/
- As of October 22nd, there are 180,483 cases in PA. 2,185,079 people have tested negative for COVID-19.
- As of October 22nd, there are 3,714 cases in Centre County. 34,545 people have tested negative for COVID-19.
