Centre Region Fire Marshal
In accordance with Pennsylvania State Law and the COG Articles of Agreement, all fires in the Centre Region must be investigated to determine the origin and cause. In many municipalities across the Commonwealth, these investigations are handled by the Pennsylvania State Police. There are several State Police Fire Marshals deployed around the Commonwealth to conduct these investigations and undertake any actions resulting from investigations. The various municipal codes of the Commonwealth provide for the appointment of a local Fire Marshal and Assistant Fire Marshals to improve local response. These appointees must meet criteria set forth by the Pennsylvania State Police.
We are fortunate to have a local Fire Marshal and Assistant Fire Marshals who are able to respond promptly to fires and who have the time and talent to work closely with our volunteer fire companies. Centre Region Fire Marshals are nationally certified to conduct investigations and they are able to offer expert testimony in courts of law. Fire Marshals must maintain all certifications, including annual training. Centre Region Fire Marshals enjoy an excellent working relationship with local law enforcement, the Fire Companies, and the Pennsylvania State Police.
Centre Region Fire Marshals are appointed to two year terms by the COG General Forum. Those persons currently serving the COG in this capacity are:
Barrett Smith, Fire Marshal
Brian Bittner, Assistant Fire Marshal
Timothy Townsend, Assistant Fire Marshal
Tim Knisely, Assistant Fire Marshal
Todd Johnson, Assistant Fire Marshal
Rob Nese, Assistant fire Marshal
