Christmas Trees
Christmas Tree Collection
Trees may be placed a the curb to be collected. Collection will occur on your regular refuse collection day. Please have your tree at the curb by 7 a.m. on your collection day (a separate truck will pick up trees, so do not rely on your "normal" collection time).
- Remove all lights and decorations from trees.
- Please do not place the trees in bags.
- Trees must be free of ice and snow to be collected.
- Please cut trees over 6 feet high in half.
This service is provided at no additional cost through the residential program contract.
This special collection of Christmas trees occurs for the residential customers in the participating Townships of Benner, College, Ferguson, Harris, and Patton. The trees will be taken to the State College Borough Composting Facility. These recycled trees will then be applied as a ground cover in landscaping applications throughout the townships. Normally 18 - 20 tons, or 12-15 truckloads, of trees are recycled through this collection.
Keeping your tree free of ice and snow: If you place your tree at the curb days or weeks ahead of the collection, rain and snow can freeze the tree to the ground, making it unsafe for the drivers to pick up. Trees stuck to the ground will not be collected. When you take your tree down, leave it in a covered location or cover it with a tarp until your regular collection day during the week of January 18 - 22.
This does not apply to properties with dumpster service nor to the residences of State College Borough.
