Climate Action Goals

On July 27, 2020 the General Forum adopted Resolution 2020-1:

RESOLUTION OF THE CENTRE REGION COG TO DEVELOP AND IMPLEMENT A PRAGMATIC, FISCALLY RESPONSIBLE STRATEGY TO MITIGATE GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS AND ADAPT TO CHANGING CLIMATE CONDITIONS.

The Climate Action Resolution identifies four actions that support a community effort to bring long term benefits to the region by reducing GHG emissions and adapting to climate change.

The first target is to achieve a 45% reduction in GHG emissions by 2030 based on 2010 levels. To meet this goal local government should:

    • engage our community
    • lead by example
    • pursue the goals in a transparent, fair, and economically responsible manner
    • encourage local projects and local impacts
    • promote clean renewable energy

The following municipalities have passed resolutions committing to develop a strategy to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions.
